On Saturday 7th May 2016, Boston Spa based fitness studio, Principal Fitness, took a trip to York Special Care Baby Unit to present a cheque for £3,622 which will amount to an over £4,000 donation with gift aid. The money was raised in a team effort between 21 of the gym’s members as they took on the gruelling Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge in April, covering 24.5 miles climbing Pen-y-ghent (691 metres), Whernside (728 metres) and Ingleborough (723 metres), all in under 12 hours.
The team chose the York SCBU Support Group as their charity as one of their members, James Moss, recently received some incredible support from the team in York after his daughter, Emmy, was born 10 weeks prematurely and received care in the unit for 6 weeks. Thanks to the unit, Emmy is doing really well and is now back home.
Owner of Principal Fitness, Charlie Hobson, commented: “We are so proud to be able to present this cheque to the York SCBU Support Group as I know they gave James & his family so much fantastic support during the 6 weeks Emmy was in their care. The money will go towards ensuring they can continue to keep up the hard work & invaluable care they offer.
“On a personal note, I’d like to say a big well done to all of our members who took part in the Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge. It wasn’t easy & we hit all of the elements during the gruelling 12 hours, even snow! It’s such a fantastic achievement to have so many of members complete it. A big thank you also goes to every one of them for their fundraising efforts & of course to everyone who donated too!”
York Special Care Baby Unit, added: “The money that is raised for us is always so important as it helps us to help all the babies and their families that pass through our doors, and the effort that people put in to raise the money never ceases to amaze us. Thank you so much to everyone.”
