If you are moving to an area you don't know very well, the Around Me app can be very useful.
This free app is your local neighbourhood expert and can let you know all the amenities in your current location – from restaurants and supermarkets to banks and bars. It can help give you a better understanding of the area you’re moving to. It's also useful if you are travelling and need to know where the nearest pharmacy, petrol station or bank is. http://www.aroundmeapp.com/
If you need to know how much the mortgage on your new property might be, this calculator from Money Saving Expert could help you to get an idea of what you can afford:
When you sell your home, viewers often ask what the council tax band is. They also want to know much they will have to pay. There can be a big difference between say a Band A, or Band D property. This website lets you enter the postcode and will return the band and annual rating; http://www.voa.gov.uk/cti/InitS.asp?lcn=0
Or you can get an Iphone or Android App called > "Council Tax" (Free Download) which will also tell you the monthly payments. Remember that if your viewer will be a sole occupier they will qualify for a 25% reduction on the annual rate.
As soon as a new buyer moves in, make sure that you notify the council (and other utility providers). This is really important, because otherwise, the council will hold you responsible for the council tax bill! This will ensure that you don't end up with your buyer's bills if they forget to update the council and energy suppliers about taking over the property.
Don't forget the fun part of moving home; planning how to decorate and improve your new pad. The Houzz app is a great option for this, allowing you to find inspiration and ideas for your new home and save them for later. You can also use the Sketch feature to bring your ideas to life.
