Ripon Reclaims Yorkshire Day
Marked annually on 01 August, Yorkshire Day celebrates all things Yorkshire. This year Ripon will be holding a huge Yorkshire Day procession of dignitaries. 200 Mayors from across the county, plus mace bearers, will parade to Ripon Cathedral in a spectacular ceremonial procession.
The city also plans to bring back an item of traditional Yorkshire fare, the Wilfra cake. These were traditionally left on doorsteps and window sills for people to help themselves. Ripon Museums is encouraging residents to bake and bring along a Wilfra Cake to the Museums stall on the day.
Market stalls and entertainment will take over the famous market square, and will showcase Yorkshire produce and attractions. There will also be stocks and a children's funfair.
