Harrogate Homeless Project - Open Day and Appeal
On October 24th we will be holding our first ever open day to give local people and businesses a chance to see our facilities and find out more about our work to reduce the number of homeless people sleeping rough in the Harrogate district. Harrogate Homeless Project is an independent local charity and has been operating for 27 years. Our objectives remain the same as when we started back in 1991 - to help homeless people from Harrogate get back on their feet by providing support, sleeping space and the services needed to tackle the underlying causes of their homelessness. The hostel open day is designed to offer local people and businesses a chance to see the facilities, meet some of the current residents and hear about our latest initiatives, which include proposals to expand our Springboard town centre drop in service. Our Open Day will be held at the hostel at 7 Bower Street, Harrogate, on October 24 from 4pm to 7pm. Residents and businesses are welcome to drop in during these hours. Come and chat to our staff and volunteers and find out more about the work we are doing to make a positive difference to the lives of single homeless adults in Harrogate. Half hourly tours of the hostel will operate and refreshments will be provided. There will also be displays highlighting the hostel’s work.
You can book to attend here.
We are also running an appeal to raise £50,000 to expand our Springboard day centre. We recently introduced a weekly GP service which has been a huge success and there is so much more we would like to do. You can read the press article here Thanks to donations received so far we have already started to make improvements to the service. These include longer opening hours and new activities through the week for service users. We are currently exploring other healthcare related services following the success of the GP service. There is so much we would like to do to develop Springboard but we need your help. Please share our appeal as widely as you can and encourage people to donate. This service is often the first contact that single homeless adults have with our service and it often leads to longer term and more structured support through our hostel and move on houses.
