Fiit Like A Girl
Absolutely flipping genius. In the words of Sausage afterwards, ‘Mum, that was so good, can I go again every day next week?’
It’s an exercise class with a difference. Launched a year ago, in response to girls spending too much time on social media and comparing themselves to celebrities (who we all know look nothing like their pictures), the class aims to get girls enjoying exercise, and building confidence whilst doing so.
Sausage was understandably a bit nervous. Aimed at around 9 – 15 years (split into two age groups), she was the youngest at 5. This was the first class back after the Christmas break, and several girls hugged Vicky when they arrived which was lovely to see – it’s a really friendly atmosphere and there are clearly some good friendships. Almost straight away a number of girls came over and asked Sausage her name and how old she was, as well as offering to look after her during the class – my heart melted. Vicky has a great rapport and relationship with all the girls, and is so supportive.
There are several warm up exercises, but there is absolutely no pressure to join in and it’s such a lovely fun atmosphere. Sausage joined in after a few minutes and was soon having a great time.
Think old school playtime games, some good music and you’re pretty much there. Duck duck goose, different variations on ‘Tig,’ ballgames and much more. Throughout it all, everyone had a blast, and sausage had no problems managing everything with all her helpers!
It’s a brilliant concept, and for the girls I suspect it’s not seen as exercise, but more a fun catch up with their friends and a chance to play some great games. Take a look at their Facebook page to see their reviews, and how it’s helped really shy girls build their confidence. Sausage was laughing away by the end of the session, despite being the youngest by several years. If you want to get your girlies away from the TV, trying to achieve ‘insta’ fame, and have some good old fashioned fun whilst making some new friends, give Fiit Like a girl a try.
In their words, music up, trainers on, screens down and lets go!!
