The charity partner for this year’s ceremony is the MND Association, which focuses on improving access to care, funding research, and campaigning for people living with, or affected by, motor neurone disease.

A special award category for 2022 is named in honour of rugby league legend Rob Burrow, who in 2019 revealed he had been diagnosed with MND at the age of 37.

The Rob Burrow Award will celebrate individuals, young people and groups who have contributed to the MND Association, helping to raise awareness and vital funds. The winner of this award will be selected by a panel of Yorkshire Choice judges.

Rob and his wife Lindsey will be guests of honour at the awards ceremony, they commented: “We are delighted that the Yorkshire Choice Awards are honouring people and groups who have done amazing work for the MND Association, through this new category.

“The event promises to be a great night and we can’t wait to celebrate with all of the nominees and winners.”

Debbie Howard, director at The Big Bamboo Agency, the company sponsoring the award, said: “There are a dozen nominees for the Rob Burrow Award, all of whom have done great work in promoting MND and the MND Association.

“Rob has done so much to raise awareness of MND and it is a pleasure and privilege to have our name associated with this award in his honour.”
