Pupils Shine in Summer Productions at Brackenfield
With Brackenfield School
Infant and Junior pupils at Brackenfield School have graced the stage to showcase their spectacular skills, with a duo of highly-anticipated summer productions.
In celebration of the 2021 Summer Olympics, the youngest children in the school performed Let the Games Begin, an original Brackenfield Infant Production written and directed by Head of Infants Mrs Moon, with original music and arrangements by Musical Director, Ms Leaf, known collectively as MoonLeaf Productions. The 45-minute show featured an abundance of singing, dancing and acting, illustrating a variety of Olympic sports. The production was expertly captured, created and shared virtually with parents.
The Junior Production presented a rework by Ms Leaf of the classic tale, Oliver Twist. Pupils worked hard to perfect their parts and put on an outstanding performance, with Year 6 pupils portraying the main characters, and Years 3 to 5 taking on the roles of street vendors and orphans. Year 6 parents were exclusively invited into school for a special, snippet recital to watch their child in their final Brackenfield School production, also indulging in a variety of themed refreshments. The whole show, produced as a formidable feature-length film, has just been released to the community.
Headmaster at Brackenfield School, Joe Masterson commented: “Our productions here at Brackenfield, expertly created by our talented staff members and perfectly executed by our gifted pupils, are well known for surpassing all expectations for a small school, and our two summer productions were certainly no exception to this. It was a wonderful way to end the school year.
“Music and Drama are important elements of the curriculum for all pupils in our school and we present children with many opportunities to perform including in our orchestra, choirs, recorder or percussion ensembles and concerts. These activities help to give children the confidence they require to perform in public, an invaluable asset during both their school and future working life.”
Founded in 1977, Brackenfield has been Harrogate’s Prep school for over 40 years, long enough for the school to witness the circle of life. Brackenfield School is now welcoming parents who were once pupils there themselves. Margie Sutcliffe, the founding Head, established a family ethos at the school that now lives on in perpetuity. More than anything else, children are happy and cared for; Brackenfield School is an extended family.
